Do you know how you find people in your current life and they remind you of people that you used to know? It’s either a good thing, or a bad thing! I had a wonderful friend in high school named Julie, she got married–I went to Japan and we lost touch. When we moved to Arizona there was a woman in our ward that reminded me of her, and there was a longing within me to be her friend (strange since I’m way too shy to take that upon myself!!) But before we moved to Chicago, we had become friends. There was another woman in this same ward that I didn’t have an affinity for…not really her fault and she was always very nice, but I kept my distance. When we moved here I found a woman that reminded me of her, and again, I steered clear. Why is that? All four of these women were very nice, friendly and sweet…but I only was drawn to two of them??

I’m having that same pull toward Mrs. Palin, the VP for John McCain. I know nothing about her…I don’t know her politics, I don’t know her history…but she reminds me of the lady I used to LOVE to babysit for, and I’m drawn to her. Now, I know we won’t be close personal friends…the secret service would shoot me if I tried to get close…you know, they just don’t like stalkers, I wonder why? But I am interested in finding out more about her…is she warm and fuzzy? Or cold and prickly?

On the subject of her daughter…I know, everyone has opinions…but I told my mother yesterday, “If the public were basing their judgment of my parents on my decisions as a 17 year old…I would be MORTIFIED! And honestly…I was the model 17 year old! I got good grades, I obeyed my curfew, I had good friends, I didn’t dabble in sex, drugs or rock ‘n roll–you could probably count me as a “Heavy” pop fan!! To this day I’ve never smoked a cigarette or used an illegal substance…nothing that most 17 year olds are facing. I was perfect! And I am still unhappy with some of the choices I made back then. I could say something about kids making adult decisions without the aid of a fully developed pre-frontal cortex…but I’m not going all scientific on ya!! I’m 37 years old and finally living the way I was taught by my parents. I think I would still be sick if they were judged on my choices today…and I’m back to being perfect!! 15, 16, 17 year old kids (boys and girls) are starting to play grown up, and they just don’t have the ability to always make the right choices. (Heck, even Barack Obama’s mother was 18 and unmarried when he was born)Then you add in the starlets of today, the girls that are flashed in the faces of our teenagers…Jessica Alba, Jamie Lynn Spears, Ashley Simpson…all pregnant out of wedlock, and there are hundreds more!
