It’s kind of funny…we stopped for treats today on the way to the in laws house for a BBQ, and I actually felt guilty about it. No, not because it was so terrible, but because we aren’t supposed to be out doing business on the Sabbath–and here we were dishing ice cream cones to the kids at the local McD’s! Wait a minute…kick that Baptist guilt to the curb…first off…it’s not Sunday and second off…we aren’t Baptist!!
Why is it when we visit the in laws on a day other than Sunday, suddenly the brain turns into ‘Ubber Moral’ Sabbath abider? I realized it after we were were driving off with our ice cream in hand and yet 10 minutes later I was thinking about the guilt of purchasing on Sunday, only to remember 10 minutes later that it wasn’t indeed Sunday!
It was a HOT, horribly sticky, nasty day here in the Chicagoland area, and the in laws have different thermometers than I do–which is a nice way of saying that while I sweated and scratched in the corner, they were perfectly fine with a couple of doors open. (Letting in the yucky, muggy heat) I actually had to excuse myself a few times throughout the day and go sit in my van with the air conditioning on. I couldn’t take it! I was fanning myself off with their church bulletin, but when I get hot I get itchy. I had my daughter get me a fork (best back scratcher around) and I spent the next 90 minutes digging holes in my back trying to find relief! All in all, it was an AWFUL Memorial Day—but now I am home–sitting next to the air conditioner outlet in my kitchen–and FREEZING! It’s great!

LOL about the guilt! None of the Baptists I know have any qualms about eating out on Sundays, as a matter of fact, I can usually find them after church at the local Denny’s, chowing down on the Grand Slam Specials.
