03 Dec 2007 Look What I Made Today!!
 |  Category: Uncategorized

A couple of years ago, we had a big birthday party for Jacob and Blake together after his baptism. I was going to make this cake for her that year because she was a huge Cinderella fan. Hence the blue fondant. As with all “Big” events in life, time got short–and I was a bit intimidated by the project–so it was scrapped and we got Cinderella cupcakes.

So this year–we are in full Princess mode. She sent out birthday invitations in the shape of a crown, inviting her friends to an Ice Cream Ball. And so I decided to dig this little project out of “Cake Decorating” exile–and played with it today, to be sure that I know what I’m doing next week.

There are a couple of differences–next week she will be pink. Next week she will have white petite coats, a few extra ripples, and tipped ribbons of frosting. This week, I just wanted to make sure I could do it. So there is simply fondant, edible glitter and well–the doll. I did learn that even though the recipe only called for one cake mix–I will use two next time–not use the entire amount–but actually get the dress to “fill out” more than it did this time. She’s kinda short! Plus, without the cake bubbling over the top–I have nothing to cut to get her to sit flat. Nothing is more satisfying than to take an sharp knife along the top of the pan after cooking a cake–to cut off all of the doming and bubbles.

  1. Excellent job. I figure I’m going to have to make one or two of those in my lifetime. Although I will try and steer Eva towards the Transformers. Heck, I gotta try, right?

  2. Oh my gosh! That’s absolutely fantastic! Are you a professional cake maker?

  3. SO cute. Did she see it? or is it going to be a surprise?
I love the details on the bottom of the dress.
It looks hard to do, you must have the hands of a surgeon.
