Christmas has come and gone! It’s hard to believe it snuck up so fast, and disappeared just as quickly! I’ve been in a depression of sorts lately, and I was worried that that would taint the holiday some how. It never really seems to live up to the hype as it is, let alone throwing a curve ball at it. Santa came big time to the Nykaza family. He brought the kids a Wii, and items following a cooking theme. Each child got an apron, and the boys got a cookbook (oddly–that they had requested) and Blakelynn got an Easy Bake oven. As far as the family gifts went, there was a lot of little ’stuff’. The boys got their tickets to go to games with their dad. The first one was a Blackhawks game the day after Christmas. It was their first time going to a hockey game, and dad was pretty excited about sharing that part of his life with them. All three of them had the time of their lives!
Blakelynn got a lot of ‘pink’ things. Dolls, doll accessories–for a time the living room had been transformed into ‘the pink room’. Barrett got a lot of little boy things. Elmo and Thomas and Bob the Builder seem to be the main attractions. He is still young enough that we could re-give him items that he got last year that he was too young to play with. All in all the kids had a great haul–and I felt tremendous guilt over just how much they really did get.
My parents and my in laws went in on a beautiful new snowblower for me. Yes, it was a couple gift–but honestly…we all know who will be doing the majority (read ALL) of the snowblowing!! So that was a wonderful help in my life. In fact, it’s snowing now, and I can’t wait to get out later and get it running. I also got a laptop, which is good since it’s the only computer in the house currently able to read "internet connection"!! I also got the new Harry Potter movie as well as the Scene It, Harry Potter edition–I will kick some MAJOR tush with that one!! Michael got a beautiful new leather ‘Bears’ coat from his parents, and some snuggly warm ‘lounge’ wear from me.
Saturday night my mother in law and I will be taking Blakelynn to her first ballet. It’s the Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker. I’m a little worried that she’s too young for it–but it will be fun for us adults! The last bit of Christmas comes mid-January when the boys get to use their last ticket and hit a Bulls game with dad. After that, Christmas will officially be over in the Nykaza house!
