Christmas Morning!!
By Robyn | December 26, 2007
I stayed up really late Christmas Eve. I had two breakfast casseroles to put together, as well as some last minute tidying and the whole "Santa" thing goin’ on. Jake and Grayson got to stay up and help with the Santa stuff. They each ate the cookies, and put the little one’s stockings together as well as getting their spots decked out with Santa stuff. Of course, the items that they had that matched were held out so that they didn’t see them, but they did a really good job. Once they headed to bed I got their stuff out, and finished up the whole "Christmas" side. Then it was into the kitchen to make the casseroles and clean up. After I finished the "Savory Breakfast Casserole" and the "French Toast Bread Pudding" we straightened up the kitchen and the only thing left to do was to sweep and mop the floor. It was 3:30 am, and I wasn’t about to put the noisy robots to work–so I set my alarm for 8 and got up and got the robots off and running. It is so nice to sit down and watch Roomba and Scooba do my work for me. The in laws were supposed to be here at 9 but they didn’t get here until close to 10-so I had a bit of time to putter around.
They brought their gifts from home, and let me tell you–I felt sick over just how much "STUFF" was brought into my house. Truly–I think next year, we are going to do away with gifts in lieu of a family vacation–one could have been bought and paid for with what we had going on here!
As usual the most fun was watching everyone open the gifts we got them–truly–it’s the best part of Christmas. No need to buy me anything–I just love watching everyone else. The boys got a Wii game from their cousin and we played it off that she didn’t realize that they didn’t have one. So they continued opening their gifts until they got to their last one. Each of them got a Wii game from us. They really thought we were dumb by this point. I said to them, "Don’t you think you better look for one?" (a Wii that is) And they grinned, said yes, and went on with Christmas. I said, "Guys, do you think your dad and I are really dumb enough to buy you Wii games if you don’t have one?" They said no, but still didn’t catch my drift. You see, I had put the Wii out in plain site. It was sitting on the piano with a Santa hat on it’s corner. I repeated again, "Don’t you think you should maybe look around here for a Wii since you just got games for it?" Ah, they finally got it! It still took about 7 minutes to find it–but they were over the moon! Then it was into the kitchen for some breakfast–and then off to the Wii!
The rest of the evening was spent at Aunt Dot’s house for Christmas dinner. Always good food, and good family. I do have to say, that I was incredibly lucky marrying into the family that I did. Sure, there are some "characters" and a little ’soap opera’ moments here and there–but the people that I really enjoy being around, are salt of the earth people. And since I couldn’t spend Christmas with my family–isn’t it nice to have another family that you enjoy?
